The Greek government consisted of monarchical, oligarchical, and democratic types of government. The various parts of the greek government were designed to serve as checks and balances to one another, They were hoping that they would minimize the danger that the government would take too much of a rapid and fast action.

The greek government had an office which was divided to acompany 2 men. Two kings were served in the government. The two kings were not with each other but against each other. Sparta never had no leader, in fact they always had 2.

Athens and Sparta were the two, most important city states in all of ancient Greece. But they were not the only city-states. There were numerous amounts of city-states in the ancient Greek world. Each was important in its own, unique way. The Greeks, who lived in each city-state, were very proud of their own hometown. They were also proud to be Greek. All Greeks, wherever their home was, had may things in common.

In the ancient times they all spoke the same language and all believed in the same gods. They all shared a very common heritage and made themselves the Greeks!

The ancient greeks thought of themselves to be citizens of their hometown, a city-state, in Greece. Each city-state had it's very own and unique personality, goals, laws and customs and were very loyal to their city-state.

Oligarchy- A oligarchy is run by a small group. An example is Sparta.
Democracy- A democracy is ruled by the citizens and have voting assemblies. Athens has used this form of government for hundreds of years.
